The Harbor School began educating young children more than 35 years ago. Founded by the late Beverly Bonwit in 1972, the School initially shared space in the Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church building. The School began with approximately 30 children but growth occurred immediately with each succeeding year bringing increased enrollment in Preschool and Kindergarten classes. In 1977, the first primary class was added and in 1980 a Second Grade was added. The Harbor School is now located in a beautiful facility on the grounds of St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church at 7701 Bradley Boulevard in Bethesda. The School is not affiliated with the Church.
Harbor School students come from all over the Washington, DC area. The school is committed to diversity and approximately 29% of students are either African-American, Asian-American, Latino-Hispanic, Middle Eastern or multi-racial.
