The Buddy Program

In the Buddy Program, First and Second Grade students "buddy" or pair with older Preschool students to read, work, and play together. Children visit each other for structured activities in the classroom such as reading, games, art projects, or snacks as well as sit together during assemblies and play together on the playground. The Buddy Program promotes a positive and supportive school-wide atmosphere and provides many benefits to the children. Older children nurture younger children and serve as role models for them, thereby gaining increased self-confidence as the "big kids" in school. Younger children look up to the First and Second Graders, feel a sense of connection and belonging to the school community, and look forward to entering the primary grades.
