History
The Harbor School began educating young children more than 30 years ago. Founded by the late Beverly Bonwit in 1972, the School initially shared space in Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church building. The School began with approximately 30 children but growth occurred immediately with each succeeding year bringing increased enrollment in Preschool and Kindergarten classes. In 1977, the first primary class was added and in 1980 a Second Grade was added. The Harbor School is now located in a beautiful facility on the grounds of St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church at 7701 Bradley Boulevard in Bethesda. The School is not affiliated with the Church.
The Harbor School serves children from Preschool age through Second Grade. It is accredited by the Maryland State Board of Education and the Association of Independent Schools of Maryland (AIMS). The Harbor School is also a member of the Association of Independent Schools of Greater Washington (AISGW) and the Washington Small Schools Association.
The Harbor School is a non-profit corporation. As a tax exempt institution, it has a governing Board of Trustees responsible for setting policy and overseeing the business of the school.
