Inquiries regarding the application process are welcome throughout the school year. Please call the Admission Office to receive an application packet, or download the application.
Each candidate for admission to The Harbor School must complete the following steps in the application process.
- Meet entrance age requirements,
- School visit/tour by parent /guardian,
- Submission of completed application and supplemental materials and $60.00 application fee,
- Student visit,
- Student transcripts and other relevant records from prior school(s) if applicable Transcript Release,
- Teacher recommendations, if applicable, and
- Parent interview.
The application and all supporting documents are due by February 1st for admission the following school year.
Admission decision letters are mailed in mid-March in accordance with the guidelines of the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS).Late applicants will be considered based upon availability
Entrance Age Guidelines
| Preschool Young 3s | 3 years old by December 31 |
| Preschool 3s | 3 years old by September 1 |
| Preschool 4s | 4 years old by September 1 |
| Junior Kindergarten | 5 years old by December 31 |
| Kindergarten | 5 years old by September 1 |
| First Grade | 6 years old by September 1 |
| Second Grade | 7 years old by September 1 |
Student Visit
Every applicant to The Harbor School will attend a play group session or visit the classroom. Applicants for Preschool through Kindergarten attend a play group session with other applicants of similar age either on a “Fun Friday” (JK and K) or “Wonderful Wednesday” (Preschool). Applicants for First and Second Grade visit the school for a full day in the classroom of her/his current grade level.
Parent Interviews
Once an application is received, the Admission Office will contact the parents to set up an interview with a school administrator. This is a wonderful time to ask questions about the admission process and to share information about your child as well as to discuss what you hope to find in a school program.
